SPECIAL MESSAGE

At the Daniel Kahikina Akaka Family Foundation,

We believe in serving our local communities and the important role we play in the global community. We also believe in the value of a good education, in the importance of investing in the next generations, being good stewards and bringing people together, inspiring them around a common cause. Senator Daniel Akaka believed in and fought for, these values all his life.

Our mission is to continue championing these causes by providing educational, and leadership opportunities and collaborating with other programs and organizations to expand our collective reach and providing like-minded individuals an opportunity to get involved.

Our foundation strives to better the lives of our neighbors and strengthen our communities by understanding the needs of these communities and providing tangible and intangible resources that will empower them to thrive.

Through our Aloha Books program, we have gifted over 200,000 books to children across Hawaii, New York and 5 other countries. Through our summer service camp we have shown students what it’s like to do meaningful work that impacts communities across Hawaii. Our GO! READ program has volunteer readers from senior citizens to young children themselves who read to over 2,000 children and inspire the love of reading in them every month.

Simply put, we want to work together to help our communities flourish, to make the world a better place for the next generations and to do it in the spirit of Senator Akaka, with Aloha.
