David Mattson is president and co-founder of Ohana100, The Daniel Kahikina Akaka Family Foundation.
David is the first grandchild of Senator Daniel K. Akaka. He spent a lot of time with Pa Akaka talking stories growing up and learning about his life’s work. David would take many weekend trips to see Mom and Pa in Washington, D.C.
David is a Kamehameha Schools alumnus. He graduated from the University of Hawaii and the John A. Burns School of Medicine and is one of the first Radiation Oncologists of Hawaiian ancestry. David is a Hawaii Community Foundation recipient.
He did residency at University Hospital, State University of New York Health Sciences Center in Syracuse, NY and at the University of Iowa Hospital & Clinics in Iowa City, IA. He did a research fellowship at the National Institutes of Health, National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, MD.
Currently, David is practicing in Buffalo, New York. He is the Director of the Gastrointestinal and Gynecological Programs in Radiation Medicine at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Institute. He services as clinical consultant for the Center for Indigenous Cancer Research (CICR). He served as Residency Program Director for six years. David is also a Clinical Associate Professor and faculty senate member at the University of Buffalo-Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.
In his free time he enjoys time with family, working with metal, clay and wood.
