Akaka Box
Senator Akaka sponsored (04/20/2007) S.1176 The Credit Card Minimum Payment Warning Act of 2007. Credit card statements must display the minimum payments in a box. Many of Senator Akaka’s colleagues will refer to this box as the “Akaka Box.”
Financial Literacy
Senator Akaka sponsored (03/09/2004) S.Res.88 that the Senate passed designating April 2005 as “Financial Literacy Month.” The bill was to raise public awareness about the importance of financial education in the United States and the serious consequences associated with a lack of understanding about personal finances. S.RES.409 A resolution designating April 2012 as "Financial Literacy Month".
